Many of our inhabitants live at a considerable distance from a hospital. Therefore, our local health clinics must offer extended medical services to inhabitants as well as tourists. The staff needs to be very independent and self-reliant. The local health clinics often have their own emergency-room.

The hospital in Östersund is fully equipped but small-scaled. Nearness is key and we welcome cooperation between disciplines. We also nurture an encouraging environment for research and training.

Around 130 different professions are gathered together under the County Council - everything from country GPs, dentists and nursing auxiliaries to actors and those caring for animals. The thing these people all have in common is the task of creating a healthy and wholesome environment for the county´s inhabitants. Obviously this includes the council´s care for the sick, but it also includes the preventative measures undertaken to help people stay healthy.
